Day 2 – Endeavour Inlet to Camp Bay

(Approx. 4 hours/12km)

Today’s mainly coastal walk takes you around Endeavour Inlet through regenerating native bush to the call of bellbirds, fantails and other New Zealand native birds.

Pause at the head of the bay to learn more about antimony & the mining industry that thrived there in the 1880s. This area was the site of a large village in the 19th Century where miners lived and worked while the hills beyond where excavated for this precious metal.

The track continues gently, following the coastline around and into Big Bay. This day is the easiest section of the track and also works well as a day walk from any of the accommodation located in Endeavour Inlet. From the head of Big Bay, continue beside the water’s edge and on to Camp Bay. Accommodation options nearby include an upmarket resort, homestay, backpackers/lodge and Department of Conservation campsite.
